Erasmus+ KA210-ADU project
We are delighted to present the fourth instructional video lesson in the Erasmus+ project Keep It Short and Simple: Introduction to Assistive Technology for Visually Impaired Persons (KISS: Intro 2 AT 4 VIPs). This inclusive initiative is led by the Split County Association of Blind People (Croatia), in collaboration with La Brújula Formación Inclusiva S.L. (Spain) and the Intermunicipal Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted Kranj (Slovenia).
This lesson focuses on the screen reader — a powerful accessibility tool that gives blind and partially sighted users audio-based access to digital devices, including computers, smartphones, and tablets. Screen readers convert text and visual information into synthesized speech or Braille output, enabling users to navigate websites, write messages, use software applications, and engage with content that might otherwise be inaccessible.
The importance of screen readers in daily life cannot be overstated. They offer a gateway to education, employment, social interaction, and civic participation. By facilitating independent access to digital environments, screen readers uphold the principles of universal design and digital inclusion, making technology more equitable and empowering for all.
This tutorial provides a practical overview of screen reader operation, exploring key features and commands. With clear demonstrations, it supports learners, educators, inclusion advocates, and vocational professionals in understanding how screen readers work and why they are indispensable in the modern digital landscape.
