We are proud to present another instructional video from the Erasmus+ project Keep It Short and Simple: Introduction to Assistive Technology for Visually Impaired Persons (KISS: Intro 2 AT 4 VIPs) — a collaboration led by the Split County Association of Blind People (Croatia), in partnership with La Brújula Formación Inclusiva S.L. (Spain) and the Intermunicipal Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted Kranj (Slovenia).
What’s Inside the Lesson
This video introduces a computer program that enables blind and partially sighted users to convert images into readable text using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Viewers will learn:
• How OCR software transforms printed or handwritten content into digital text
• Step-by-step demonstrations of the program in use
• Practical tips for applying OCR tools to read documents, packaging, signage, and more
Why It Matters
OCR technology is a vital tool for visually impaired persons. It provides access to printed information that would otherwise be inaccessible, promoting autonomy in both personal and professional settings. From reading mail to navigating public spaces, OCR opens up new possibilities for inclusion and empowerment.
